ARA'S NOTE:
I've put off reading More than Water for a couple of weeks now. Why? I don't know. What I do know is that I regret not reading it earlier because I LOVED IT. It is definitely included in my favorite list, no matter if I don't have a physical one, but it would forever be in my mind and heart. There are so many reasons why I fell hard for this book, this story, and this author. Let me share them to you...

SYNOPSIS:
It doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel wrong. It just...feels.

EJ Cunning, an art history major, dates musicians. Foster Blake, a chemical engineering major, can’t sing a tune. They’re not each other’s type. They’re coworkers.

Then, one night leads to sex—sex between friends—which leads to an agreement. It all seems so simple—but nothing ever is.

Many layers build a person’s facade.

Look into the depths for what’s hidden within.

It’s more than water. It’s a story—a living and breathing substance beyond the reflective surface.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

Evelyn "EJ" Cunning has balls, no filter, and is a true blue artist. She's quipped with lots of humor, sarcasm, and such genius comebacks that she makes such an impression upon first meeting. She has a passion for art, but she's confused as to what she should do next. Social expectations and family obligations are the rocks tied to her feet, dragging her down the water, and all she really wants is to be free and happy.

Foster "Fozzie" Blake is a genius with layers rivaling that of an onion. He's emotionally unavailable and is not capable of trusting another woman because of a past that cut him deeply. He knows what he wants in life and seeks out to get it...if only he can conquer his fear.

TO LOVE:
Where to begin? Oh I know, the break up scene!
"Nice to meet you. I hope you don’t mind giving my boyfriend a blow job tonight for me. You can even fuck him if you like. It’s up to you.” I lift my wrist, pretending to check the time on my nonexistent watch.
“I suddenly have other plans, and I wouldn’t want him to go without ejaculating for a period of time. He obviously couldn’t wait for my return, so you would be doing him and me a great service."
Who handles a situation like that? My girl, that's who! (Yep! EJ is now officially my gal.) I loved the book as a whole, but I got to admit, Evelyn is what really got me hooked. I've always been a sucker for female leads who can hold their own, has a funtastic arsenal of witty comebacks, and doesn't act all shy and coy. She knows who she is and is a strong believer of the saying, "If you don't like me for who I am, then that is your loss." Okay, maybe that's not exactly how it went, but that's basically the gist of it. I truly connected with EJ. We both have to act like two different people when we're with family and with the rest of the world. Only difference is, my family is much more supportive and really shows me that they love me. But the sense of responsibility, doing what's best for the family, being lady-like...oh yeah. We got that going for us. We both have zero filter as well. We say what we think and we mean it. We won't change the way who we are just so you'll like us. Nuh-uh, we'd rather stand up, walk away, and find other lucky people to grace with our awesomeness. She's also very passionate, wild (in a good way), and artistic. Exploring and stepping outside of her comfort zone doesn't scare her, and she my have a few friends, but they're perfect for her. I felt so in sync with EJ that about 1/8 in the story, I said, "Fu** it, I'm going to imagine I'm her. We're basically the same person anyway." Total book soul-sister moment.

Foster is a really cool guy. For a nerd, he's very...extraordinarily HOT. I'm actually into guys like him; smart, kind of geeky, can keep up with verbal war, easy on the eyes, a gentleman, and with a sense of humor. Did I mention he's amazing in the sack? According to EJ that is. Their banter is entertaining as hell, and I will re-read it over and over again just so I can be sharper when it comes to verbally abusing a person.

The story itself was amazing and there were events that which made me wonder how that freaking happened. We get to see both Evelyn and Fozzie grow into better people, and with their chemistry being what it is, they're just...explosive!!

TO BLEH:
What kind of ending was that? That could not have possibly be it. There's got to be more! An extended version perhaps, or a story that is written from Foster's POV perhaps. We just really need more. It didn't give us the closuere that we needed.

SUMMARY:
10 out of 5 stars for More than Water. I am not exaggerating, I just really loved it that much. It was beautifully written, the characters were all interesting, story was engaging from beginning to end, and the romance was simply...marvelous. I need more! I recommend this HIGHLY, and chances are I'll be reading it again. You'll enjoy this for sure everybody.

Blog Tour of Lip Service by Adele Downs -- REVIEW

June 22, 2015

Title: Lip Service
Author: Adele Downs
Genre: Hot Contemporary Romance
Print Length: 116 pages
Release Date: April 27, 2015
Published by: Boroughs Publishing Group
ASIN: B00WT1EA2W
SourceARC Given by Author and Tour Organizer

ARA'S NOTE:
Okay...I admit that I was partly at fault for my "struggling" with the first few chapters of this book. I didn't read the synopsis well -- which is ironic I know considering it's part of my review -- leading to my utter shock that there is a ghost in this romance book. Not a ghost of the past or anything, but an actual freaking ghost in the form of the female lead's aunt. Like, what the feeeeeerrrrk?! Where the hell did that come from?! I have no qualms about stories with supernatural beings because I also like paranormal genres, but when you're expecting to read about romance and stuff, especially with a title like Lip Service, the last thing you expect to read about is a femal lead who hides behind the ghost of her dead aunt who is haunting her house and her niece's relationship with a man who refuses to believe in ghosts. Whew! What a mouthful. In spite of my ranting though, once I got over the shock, I actually liked the story. Let me tell you more...

SYNOPSIS:
Getting Between Jack…

Orphaned at a young age, Legs Anderson owes her Aunt Ada everything. The stoic old lady raised her, and Ada’s warnings about men—and the Harris boys in particular—have stuck, even after her death. Of course, that could be because Ada stuck around, too.

…And His Legs

Patience is not one of Jack Harris’ virtues, and he’s waited too long to start a life with the woman he’s loved since childhood instead of them just knocking boots. Now Ada is interfering from beyond the grave, haunting the old Victorian house she bequeathed to her niece and reinforcing Legs’s fears of commitment.

But Jack won’t give up. No matter what trouble may follow, the house will be renovated, Ada will learn to let go, Legs will put her money where her mouth is… then Jack’ll put his lips everywhere else.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Legs Anderson is the perfect woman. Business degree holder, physically perfect, and a really nice girl who everyone adores. She's guarded and sheltered because of the loss she has experienced. She wants nothing more than be with the man she's loved for a long time, but old habits and fears die hard.

Jack Harris is stubborn, persistent, and does not believe in ghosts. He's loved Legs since he was younger, and now that he has her he wants to help her overcome her fears and doubts, as well as "prove" to her aunt that his intentions are pure.

TO LOVE:
I may have ranted earlier, but I really did like the story. I can confidently say that it's not like a lot of books, and the story line is truly inspired. The small town setting was really accurate. We have the old folks who have nothing better to do but gossip, the drop-dead gorgeous guy with a history of playing girls, the woman who every man wants to bring home to Ma, and everyone who knows everything about anyone. The fact that the usual morning exchange between Legs and Jack is the town's source of entertainment is also quite funny.

The book was well-written; it was funny, sweet, steamy, and just really amusing. This is a first for me from Adele Downs, but I'll be sure to pick up some other title of hers.

TO BLEH:
The "voices" confused me a bit. There were a few times I felt at a loss as to whose mind I am in, especially at the beggining. But the farther in I got, the less I minded. I just made the "switch" if I got it wrong the first time.

SUMMARY:
Lip Service is a sweet read that teaches us about compromise, letting go of our fears, and moving forward with our lives. I give it 4 stars, and I recommend this to hopeless romantics out there.

EXCERPT:
"Move in with me, dammit. You’re the most stubborn woman I ever knew.”

Legs topped his coffee cup with fresh brew, easy as you please. “No more stubborn than you, since you keep askin’ the same old question. I have my own place.”

Jack frowned and stabbed his egg yolks, making them run. “Then let me live with you.”

“In my aunt’s house?” Legs asked like he was crazy.

“It’s your house now.”

“I’m trying to fix it up. I have to patch and paint. There’s no room for your things.”

“I’ll help you and then you’ll have plenty of space for me. And my stuff.”

Her ponytail shook with her reply. “Ada won’t like it. She’ll think it’s immoral.”

Jack leaned forward. “You talk about her like she’s still with us. She’s been gone over a year, sweetheart.” His voice dropped an octave and his brow creased. “Don’t you think she’d give in after all this time?”

Legs wrinkled her nose. “No. She thinks you’re a wanderer.”

Jack tossed down his fork. “I own a sporting goods store! I go fishing!”

He touched her hand when she got close enough and drew little circles around her wrist bone with a fingertip. The preschool teachers from Let’s Explore stifled sighs at the next table. “It’s time to let go, darlin’.” His expression turned earnest. “She raised you, I know. But I want to be with you now. It’s time to let me in.”

“Not if it means letting her go. I’m sorry, Jack. I just can’t do that to her.”

Jack sighed and returned to his breakfast. “We’ll talk about this again tomorrow.”

REVIEW:
A book cover is actually a big deal to me. It's the first thing that catches my eye, and the blurb or reviews just comes second. If I were to pass by this book in Amazon or Barnes & Noble, I doubt that I would even spare it a second glance. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth. So when I was offered to review Exile, part 3 of the series, I decided to start from the very beginning so I can give fair judgement. Going in I thought I might have to skip a few pages assuming that I would be bored or something. I was wrong. I did not skip or skim any page, I was actually immersed in this whole other universe, and admittedly, I had a hard time coming out of it.

If a reader gets drawn to another world and starts comparing reality from fiction and favoring the alternate universe, that's a dead giveaway that the author is good and succeeded in his/her goal.

This book is fast paced, exciting, and a little nerve-wracking. The Guy and Teodor are completely different yet similar at the same time. For a couple of 13-year old boys, I'd like to think that they're very mature. But I guess that just comes with surviving in the world they live in. The writing was really good, though there were times I had to go back and re-read something because I feel like I missed out on an important detail. The beginning was also a bit too much in my opinion. That was a pretty long introduction, but I guess that happens when you're being informed of a whole new world with different sets of rules, but at the same time you see the likeness of it in our world.

I liked this book, but I feel like I would like the next two more. I give Kidnap 3.5 stars, and I look forward to reading Hunter, part 2 in this trilogy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
The author was born in Wallasey, England, in 1964, and moved to the South of France when she was eleven. She spent her teenage years living in the cosmopolitan city state of Monaco and became immersed in its many languages and cultures. An English girl in a French school, for three hours each week she would sit at the back of the class as her colleagues learnt English. To pass the time, she wrote stories. This led to a lifetime of writing novels, scripts, stories and articles.

In her working life, Sally writes marketing communications and manages large international websites.

In 2010, Sally joined the Hogs Back Writers, a club located on the outskirts of Guildford, and she set about turning an old manuscript into this novel: Guy Erma and the Son of Empire. Sally currently lives in Farnham, and she is married with two children.

MTM Day 20: REVIEW of Click by Marian Tee

June 20, 2015

Click is one of those books that I cannot and will not forget..EVER. On my review of Burn, I did warn readers that your tissue box will come handy. What would you expect in Click? Kidnapping, human trafficking, rape, death, sex clubs, lots of pain, unraveling of families, and a lot more. Sounds interesting? You don't even know half of it yet.

Title: Click (Heart Racer #5)
Author: Marian Tee
Publication Date: August 20, 2014
Published by: Jaded Speck Publishing
Source: Bought

SYNOPSIS:
Helios Andreadis, the gorgeous, rich, and powerful President of the Afxisi, will do everything it takes to rescue the girl he loves. She has gone through so much pain, most of it caused by his own cruelty. The thought of her having to suffer again, and this time in the hands of a sadistic trafficker with a ruthless and gruesome fascination for violating human flesh---
He would never let that happen. He would do everything to get her back, even if it means doing the one thing she may never forgive him for.

MJ Cartwright has always done her best to lead a sunny, optimistic life – even when all the chips are down and she’s literally black and blue from all the injuries she’s gotten from her “father”. But now, it feels impossible to even consider the mere existence of hope, with nowhere to run, no one to help her, and nothing to make her reality less true.

If all she can look forward to is being a sex slave to a monster, maybe…it’s time to give up. She would never be able to go back to Helios after this anyway.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
MJ Cartwright is not who people thinks she is. Apparently, she's the daughter of a really rich Greek billionaire and she has two other siblings, one of them is her best friend. But just when these things started to unravel, it becomes too late. She tries to hold on to hope, but with everything happening, she might just let go of the pain...and her life.

Helios Andreadis is going to do everything he can to get MJ back. Even if it means builiding a reputation in the BDSM world, fucking and leaving people bleeding on his way to the top. He's throwing his fortune a way for a smidgen of information about MJ's whereabouts. He doesn't want to lose hope, but when his vision of MJ starts to fade, the fear of being too late to save her might just kills him.

TO LOVE:
OH GOSH THE DRAMA!! Gaaah!! I warned you about spoilers, because there is no way at all to review this book without giving anything away. What don't I love about Click? Absolutely nothing. MJ and Helios tries their darnest to find each other again. MJ does everything to prolong her life, hoping that eventually she would be found. She endures the intense pain that she is given..repeatedly, all the while detaching herself from the things going on around her. Helios fuck women and give them pain to earn a reputation that will get him noticed by the woman who will serve as his ticket to find MJ. He ignores the disgust and self-loathing that he feels in order to save MJ, while trying to keep his sanity in the process.

I freaking loved how Afxisi got together to torture and kill -- YES, KILL -- the monster that is responsible for all of MJ's hardship. The way they got rid of him is perfect, and I would not have it any other way.

When Helios finally found MJ, she was too broken and disgusted with herself that she can't even consider being with him again. I liked how they didn't immediately jump back to how things were, because seriously, how can you possibly be normal again after going through all that. That actually goes to both of them. On that note...

TO BLEH:
...I think I would've found it a bit more realistic or interesting if they went their separate ways for a bit to try and recover. Even a few months would've been great. But then again I undestand why Marian wanted them to be together that soon. They've endured too much already, haven't they?

SUMMARY:
I loved, loved LOVED Helios' story. This has actually been converted to be one book instead of three different installments. Those who hate cliffhangers, ya'll should check this out. There is no doubt about the score I would give this. 7 out of 5 stars. *grins* Think that's enough? Read this everybody; it's dark, dangerous, and deadly. Oh, it's very heartbreaking too.

BOOK REVIEW of Pepper Jones 1 & 2 by Ali Dean

June 20, 2015
Author: Ali Dean
Publication Date: August 25, 2013
Genre: Young Adult, Sports, Romance

ARA'S NOTE:
When I read the blurb of Pepped Up and All Pepped Up, I was hesitant to review it because of two reasons: first, I'm not into stories that involve love triangles. Second, I don't run, and I know next to nothing about this sport! I figured that I'd probably have a hard time connecting to the female lead. Both concerns of mine have been quickly disregarded when I got into reading these books, and I can confidently say that the Pepper Jones trilogy (thought I haven't read the third one yet) is now part of my favorite series list.

SYNOPSIS:
Pepper Jones is ready for an epic cross country season. She wants to qualify for Nationals, and she’s willing to do anything it takes to make it happen. She can handle long miles and hill sprints, but boys? That’s an entirely different challenge.

Pepper’s never considered revealing her deeper feelings for her longtime friend, Jace Wilder. After all, he’s got the personal magnetism and good looks to hook just about any girl in town -- and he has. Their friendship stands apart from high school social circles, and they’re both just fine with that (or at least they pretend to be).

That is, until running star Ryan Harding moves to town.

When it comes to running, Pepper’s goals are clear. But when it comes to Jace and Ryan, it’s nowhere near as simple.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Pepper Jones is a pretty complicated girl. She's strong but can't handle confrontations, driven but loses focus when it comes to a certain someone, not a good girl but can't ever be called a bad girl either. She's exactly my kind of gal! Running always keeps her centered, and it comes as easy as breathing to her. Boys or fitting in have never interest her, but that is until Ryan arrived and Jace started acting un-brotherly (not a real word) towards her.

Jace Wilder has a lot of anger and sadness bottled up inside him. He seeks acceptance and love that not even fu***ng countless girls -- sometimes more than one at a time -- can fulfill. The only person who makes him feel...better is also the only girl that he can't have. His feelings for "Pep" runs so deep, and he considers her his sanity. Without her, he feels nothing.

TO LOVE:
Based on my Character Background section, you'd already have a good idea of who ends up together. This is not a love triangle. Well, actually it is, but it's not the kind where the girl is really in love with two men and couldn't decide who she wants to be with. Nah, Pepped Up wasn't like that. Sure he got together with Ryan, but Jace didn't exactly help matters in any way. Let me breakdown the things I liked and loved in Pepped Up:

The Characters
I can see myself hanging out with Pepper. She has the makings to be part of the popular crowd, but she couldn't care less about that. I was sort of a Pepper Jones in my high school as well, so I actually related to her which is in total contradiction to my earlier assessment. She's effortlessly cool and hot, confident and shy, and she's totally easy to love. Ryan is just...*sigh* he's my kind of guy. Cute but doesn't flaunt it, can blend in with any group, goal-oriented, responsible, and sweet. He's the complete boyfriend package! Bunny...oh, bunny, why aren't thou my grandmother like you? She's the coolest nana ever! She can be quite embarrassing if you don't know how to handle her, but she's a 100 in the awesomeness scale, no doubt. The support characters were also very nice. The jocks weren't annoying and mean like how other books and movies show them to be.

The Story
It's not everyday you read about a high school girl's journey in achieving her goal in a sport that she truly loves, as well as figuring out who her heart truly wants. More often than not when we read a book with sports in it, it usually focuses on the male lead's road to success in that field. So Pepped Up is a really refreshing and accepted change.

The Hot Scenes
This is a bit of a spoiler, but the steamy scene between Pepper and Jace was just off the charts! I think I drooled at some point. And they weren't even naked!!

TO BLEH:
I found Jace's demeanor and attitude very bothersome. There also weren't any explanation about his feelings for Pepper; when it started, how, and why. Especially since he insists on calling her a little sister. I guess I was just looking for a believable reason for his feelings.

SUMMARY:
There's absolutely no doubt  that I loved this book. I give it 5 stars. It's not your regular high school story book with teenage angst and shallow problems. This is very inspiring, frustrating, and exciting.

Author: Ali Dean
Publication Date: July 10, 2014
Genre: Young Adult, Sports, Romance

ARA'S NOTE:
I started reading All Pepped Up immediately after finishing Pepped Up. So that was about 12 midnight. Can you say addicted? I really liked the first installment of the Pepper Jones series, and just a heads up...this second one is filled with sexual tension, confusion, family reconciliation, and self-discovery.

SYNOPSIS:
(This is the second book in the Pepper Jones series. The following description contains spoilers for Pepped Up, which should be read first.)

Pepper Jones knew that being Jace Wilder’s girlfriend wouldn’t be simple. But she didn’t predict just how many complications would arise from his past. Jealous girls? That she expected. Family secrets? Not so much. At least Pepper can always hit the trails to clear her head… except when it comes to racing. The high expectations from her phenomenal cross country season haunt her, and she can’t seem to get psyched up for track season. Pepper’s junior year at Brockton Public is full of challenges on and off the track, but she’s not afraid to face them.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Pepper Jones lost one of the most important things in her life -- her desire to win. She's unsure of what she wants to do towards her running career and her doubts are manifesting themselves by making her body fail to cooperate. All she knows is that she wants to fight for her relationship with Jace, and in order to do that, she must learn to trust him fully.

Jace Wilder is confused and scared. Growing up, he felt the need for acceptance because his mother left them. Now she's back and he just wants to have her in his life again. Just when he thinks everything in his life is going perfectly, something tears Pepper away from him.

TO LOVE:
In my review of Pepped Up, my annoyance with Jace was very obvious. In All Pepped Up though I liked him. He's possessive with Pepper but in a really charming way, he can also control his emotions much better now which I'm sure is all thanks to his girlfriend. The fact that his family is complete now must also be a huge factor because according to Bunny and Pepper, it seems like a ton of weight has been lifted off of Jace's shoulders, making him a better person. Wes also did very well in my book; he's much more responsible now, treats people better, and he's 100% pro Pepper.

Our female lead goes through a lot of confusion and self-doubt in this installment in the series. She starts to doubt her ability and passion in running, or more accurately, winning. There are also some people trying hard to rip apart her relationship with Jace, and she does have doubts and insecurities. But one of the many things I love about her is her courage to take on these challenges and not back down. Also, the way she handled the professional dilemmas she went through is amazing. This teaches us to not give up on the things we love just because we're going through a phase, especially if we love what we're doing. Pressure is also part of life, and you'll get more of it the better you are im what you do, but we shouldn't let it get in our heads and deter us from our goals.

TO BLEH:
Still no "I love you"? Did I just miss it or are they really not yet in love with each other? I mean, sure they choose to show it instead of say it, and that they also say things to each other that is even heavier than those three words, but it's just that...I need to hear (read) it! It'll give me peace of mind.

SUMMARY:
Another 5 stars for All Pepped Up. It teaches us about trust, second chances, and conquering of self-built obstacles. I really can't wait to read the last part of the series.
