Blog Tour of Climax (The Publicist #3) by Christina George

Before reading the last few pages of Shelf Life, I seriously thought that it would be a happily-ever-after for Kate and Mac. I even figured that Nick would end up with Kate's best friend, Grace. Why I thought that...well, it would sort of -- very little -- make sense, right? But nooooooo...I had to go and read Climax and POOF! goodbye well thought off happy ending for everyone!! (Okay, so I'm exaggerating)

(NOTE: If you haven't read Shelf Life, this will spoil it for you...just a little.)

SYNOPSIS:
Kate Mitchell has never forgiven herself for breaking Nick Lavigne’s heart. Now he’s back and he’s moved on, and it’s affecting Kate’s life more than she’s willing to admit.

Kate Mitchell has everything. She's the head of a crazy successful publishing house, engaged to the traffic-stopping sexy Mac Ellis and she's about to sign one of the biggest authors of her career.

And that's when everything falls apart. Everything is perfect…until it’s not.

In a city of 8 million people Kate manages to run into someone she never expected to see again.

Nick is handsome, impossibly kind, every girl’s dream, and Kate’s former fiancĂ©. He’s also the brother of the rising star author she’s trying to sign. Now that Nick’s back in town and has moved on he insists he’s over Kate, but part of him still can’t get past how amazing they were, and his sister won’t let anyone forget how brutally it ended.

When Mac is dealt a life-changing blow, it forces Kate to question every single choice she’s made.

Follow Kate as she embarks on a journey of life and love, navigating through the decisions that will change it all forever.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Kate Mitchell is lost. She thought she was at the top of the world, and that she has everything. She made the decision of being with Mac and even shattered the heart of Nick. But then things happened. Bad things. And she becomes a shell of her former self...until she finds the right path.

Mac Ellis is a bastard. He loves Kate, and she's the best kindest woman he knows. But unexpected things happen -- things involving his ex-wife. Nothing is the same for him since then.

Nick Lavigne is trying to find happiness again. With a girlfriend and a child on the way, he's supposed to be contented. But instead, he thinks about Kate all the time and he starts questioning the things he really want in life.

REVIEW:
FUCK! Sorry. I hope there aren't any kids reading this, YIKES. I just had to get that out. I loved this book. Oh, to heck with it, I have a love/hate relationship with this book! Climax has many twists, many surprises, and I'm not even sure if I like or detest them. It's the exact reason why I decided not to separate my review to their respective "to love" and "to bleh" sections.

Okay, let's cut to the chase...I freaking HATE Mac. I loved him in the first two books and I was vying for him and Kate to be together forever, but that just blew up on my face. They make such a great team, romantically and professionally. Nick is a great guy, no doubt about that, but that's exactly why I can handle him not being with Kate. He can easily find another woman to be with because he's perfect and has no commitment issues. Going back to Mac's asshole tendencies (Yes, I am using a lot of expletives right now), I was very disappointed with what he did. Is it just in his DNA? Is the saying about men like him true? Does he not love Kate enough to be able to do something so rotten? He, or rather someone important, was going through something sad and unfortunate, but it was no excuse for what he did. NOT AN EXCUSE AT ALL.

I found Kate's transition was a bit too quick for my liking. One would assume that because she was so in love with Mac, it would take a very long time before she can move on...again. But it wasn't like that. I guess nobody could blame her; mix in alcohol, mexico, depression, and Nick, anyone would be changing tunes pretty quickly too.

I can't say much without giving anything away. I will say this though...Kate gets her happily-ever-after with one of these two amazing men, and the other guy...well...he's living with the choices he made.

SUMMARY:
The third and last installment of this series gets 4.5 stars from me. As you can tell, I feel so strongly about this book. An author's goal is to engage readers, and I admit that Christina George succeeded in that feat. I would NEVER forget this story. I highly recommend this trilogy. It won't disappoint.

I want to thank iRead Book Tours and Christina George for giving The Booksnake Etc. a chance to take part in this tour, and for the free ebook copies as well. It was a fun journey, and may this book continue to grow in success.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Christina George has worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn't. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, cause it’s more fun to guess, right? George continues to work in publicity and helps authors because at the end of the day she does love books, she loves publishing, and she loves authors. She hopes you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as she enjoyed creating it.

  1. Ok so all I can say is WOW -- I love how passionate you are about this. THANK YOU so much! You know I really toyed with the Mac stuff. Is it a DNA thing or was there unfinished business? I think it's the latter - but I love hearing the debate on this. Oh and if you loved Mac (even the tiniest bit towards the end of this book) I am doing a book just for Mac. Anyway, thank you - thank you you. I love this review - and all the swearing tells me that if we met, we'd be BFF's forever. You can't be in publishing and not have a trash mouth. Just sayin' :-)

    1. It's just that I was so into this series that I was almost too violent. Haha! I've thought of throwing my tablet at least half a dozen times, pulled my hair from frustration, and bit my knuckle to stop myself from screaming at my reader in a public place. :-) I did see the synopsis of the book about Mac. The one on your website. I'm still kind of upset with him, so I'll give myself some time before I jump into it. ^_^

Thanks so much for not minding the cussing. Haha! If I weren't halfway across the world, I'll definitely go to your events so I can meet you and try to convince you that we'll be awesome BFF's. Kinda like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler only more bookworm-y. :-)
